Below is a list of books I have personally reviewed. They are all of value to those interested in Bible truth, worldviews, and the ongoing culture wars. In fact, most are uncommonly good and are essential references on the bookshelves of the informed.

This is a book that will make you think about how you think, and by now you probably know that I think thinking is worth thinking about. If we can believe those infomercials on T.V., then there are a lot of folks in America today who believe their lives would actually improve if their buttocks were firmer. Folks like this may eventually develope “buns of steel,” but it's clear they've got mush for brains. It was Bertrand Russell, that infamous unbeliever, who said, “Most Christians would rather die than think—in fact they do.” Fit Bodies Fat Minds: Why Evangelicals Don't Think And What To Do About It laments the anti-intellectualism of evangelicalism, and points out its crippling effect in an age where ideas have greater consequences than ever before. Although this is a book about evangelicals for evangelicals, the non-Calvinists can learn from what Os Guinness has to say as he deals with the affects of polarization, pietism, primitivism, populism, pluralism, pragmatism, philistinism, and premillenialism. New Testament Christians will find Guinness' critique of primitivism (or restorationism) of particular interest, and he even mentions “Churches of Christ.” I've always learned from what Guinness, an Englishman who loves America, has had to say. This book is no exception. It is imformative and thought-provoking. You can securely order this book online by clicking on the cover graphic above or the “Buy the book” graphic below.
This book, The Death Of Truth, edited by Dennis McCallum, is the best exposition of postmodernism to be found. Postmodernism, the guiding spirit of our times, teaches that things like reason and rationality are cultural biases, and that truth—especually God's truth—doesn't exist. The various contributors to this book deal with difficult, abstract subjects in an easy to understand way. They ably deal with the impact of postmodernism on health care, literature, education, psychotherapy, law, science, and religion. This book, The American Hour: A Time Of Reckoning And The Once And Future Role Of Faith, is a brilliant analyzis of the causes of America's current moral malaise. Its author, Os Guinness, who was born of missionary parents in China and educated in England, has lived in the United States since 1984. He has been a Guest Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies and a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution. I have read behind him since coming across his excellent little book, entitled The Gravedigger File (not reviewed), back in 1983. In this book, Dr. Guinness demonstrates how we have come very close to losing the shared beliefs, traditions, and ideals that have helped to shape American culture. In doing so, he sets forth a compelling view for the new role of religion in addressing our problems and moving us beyond the current cultural wars.
